FINA president and executive director arrive in Kazan

One week before the start of the 16th FINA World Championships, the host city welcomes the officials of the International Swimming Federation (FINA). Dr. Julio C. Maglione, FINA President, arrived in Kazan tonight, meanwhile the plane with FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu aboard landed at the Kazan International Airport the night before.

The FINA President and FINA Executive Director will have seven days leading to the World Championships to give feedback on Kazan's readiness to host the largest sporting event of this year. In particular, Dr.Julio С. Maglione and Cornel Marculescu plan to personally inspect the venues and meet with Kazan 2015 Organising Committee executives. On July 23, the FINA officials will have a meeting with OC Chairman and Russian Minister of Sport, Vitaly Mutko. They will discuss urgent issues related to the preparation and delivery of the 16th FINA World Championships. On that very day FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione and FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu will make speeches at the FINA General Congress in Kazan.

The 16th FINA World Championships will take place in Kazan from July 24 till August 9, 2015. There will be six types of competitions: swimming, open water swimming, high diving, diving, synchronised swimming and water polo. The Championships will bring together 2,793 athletes, 1,490 delegation members representing 190 countries, which is clearly a breakthrough in the history of these competitions. 198 technical officials - 117 international ones and 81 national ones - will work during the Championships.
