Kazan Arena stadium’s readiness tested ahead of FINA worlds

18 July 2015, Saturday

One of the most extensive real-life rehearsals was held today at Kazan 2015 venues to check their operational readiness for the upcoming sporting event. Among those who took part in the drills were Tatarstan’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Vladimir Leonov, Tatarstan’s Minister of Healthcare Adel Vafin, Tatarstan’s Minister of Construction, Architecture, Housing and Utilities Irek Faizullin, representatives of other republican ministries and departments.

The rehearsal in which three sports venues – Kazan Arena Stadium, Kazanka Venue and Water Polo Arena – were involved, began early in the morning. More than 3,000 people took part in it.

The venue team of the Kazan Arena Stadium arrived at their place of work early in the morning at 6.45. By 8 o’clock, workforce briefing was completed and police, EMERCOM officers and safety stewards entered on duty at their posts. After all preparatory works were done, athletes and officials arrived at the venue. A doping control station began its work. As part of the drills, the organisers also tested the operation of media shuttles.

The OC workforce also rehearsed some event services activities such as welcoming spectators and showing them to their seats in the stadium. The drills ended with the simulation of a venue-wide evacuation upon alarm.

“All these exercises are aimed at checking the routine operations of all the venues, as well as workforce and volunteers’ performance during the 2015 FINA World Championships,” the OC’s spokespeople said.

The drills are also scheduled for July 22 when the dress rehearsal of the Opening Ceremony of the 16th FINA World Championships will be held.
