Rustam Minnikhanov congratulates athletes and coaches with achievements of Tatarstan at Universiade in Gwangju

Acting President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov met winners of the 28th Summer Universiade in Gwangju (South Korea).

The meeting was held at Tatarstan House of Government.

Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated athletes and coaches with their achievements at the Summer Universiade in South Korea and noted that medals won show the high level of training, the press service of Tatarstan President reports.

"Your victories are very important for us, for Tatarstan," Rustam Minnikhanov said, referring to the athletes - participants of the meeting. "You are a positive example for students, for all who study with you."

Rustam Minnikhanov said that the republic's leadership would continue to provide full support to sport and athletes in the region in order to develop a modern sports infrastructure.

"We want you after finishing sports career to have future, get a good education, a job, have social guarantees," Rustam Minnikhanov said. He wished the athletes success and further high achievements.

It should be recalled that 34 sportsmen who are members of republican teams in various sports and professional clubs of Tatarstan participated in the 28th World Summer Universiade in Gwangju (South Korea) in the national team of Russia.

Tatarstan was presented in such sports as water polo, volleyball, rowing, judo, athletics, tennis, table tennis, swimming, clay pidgeon shooting, taekwondo and fencing.

In total, athletes from Tatarstan won 11 medals (two gold, four silver and five bronze) at the Universiade in South Korea. The first win of the Universiade belongs to shooter Nikolai Teply, who won gold in the team competition in the monastery, as well as volleyball player Irina Malkova and Olesya Nikolaeva, who joined the Russian national team.

Silver medals are on account of Elizaveta Bazarova in swimming 50 meters freestyle, Svetlana Krasheninnikova and Ekaterina Rabaya included in the Russian women's national team in shooting in the ladder discipline, taekwondo fighter Elena Evlampeva in team competition and Elena Shasharina in the Russian fencing team.

Two bronze medals were won by judoka Niaz Bilalov, one in the individual competition in the weight category of 100 kg, the second - in the team competition. Basketball player Pavel Antipov, being a part of the Russian national team, runner Rinas Akhmadeev, showed the third time at a distance of 5000 meters and Elizaveta Bazarova in relay 4x100 meters brought by one medal.
