Tickets for European badminton tournaments go on sale in Kazan

20 January 2016, Wednesday

On February 16-21, Kazan will become a host for yet another sporting event. The sports capital of Russia is gearing up to host two badminton tournaments at once: European Badminton Men’s and Women’s Team Championships and European Badminton U15 Championships. This year’s tournaments will be played at the Gymnastics Centre, where the 2014 Intersport European Championships were successfully staged.

The competitions will bring together top athletes from European badminton powerhouses. Russia will also be represented by its strongest badminton players. It is expected that about 450 athletes from 39 countries (Wales has dropped out of the competition) will compete at both tournaments. 76 international and national technical officials will officiate at the competitions.

The European Men’s and Women’s Team Championships will serve as yet another opportunity to earn berths to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) since these will be the final qualifying competitions ahead of this summer’s mega sporting event.

The practice of holding the European Men’s and Women’s Team Championships together with the European U15 Championships will be continued in Kazan. The two tournaments were held jointly for the first time two years ago in Basel (SUI).

The tickets for competitions are already on sale. They can be purchased either online at the ticket agency’s website www.zamnoi.ru or in ticket offices around the city. During the competition days, tickets will also be available for purchase at the Gymnastics Centre. Tickets for preliminary rounds cost 100 rubles, for quarterfinals and semis – 150 rubles and for finals – 200 rubles.
