RAJC 2016: winners determined in shot put and pole vault

The Russian Athletics Junior Championships are underway at the Central Stadium, Kazan.

Day 1 of the national athletics tournament saw junior athletes compete in the men’s shot put and women’s pole vault events.

Women. Pole vault. Final

1. Elizaveta Bondarenko (Moscow - Rostov Oblast) - 430 cm

2. Valery Nikonov (Irkutsk Oblast) - 420 cm

3. Nina Klyuzheva (Irkutsk Oblast) - 400 cm

“I feel great. I’m happy with the result but it could have been better. Kazan is a very beautiful city. The weather was nice. I was afraid that the rainy weather will spoil everything but right now all is great; the sun has come out,” the winner said.

Women. Shot put. Final

1. Alyona Bugakova (Moscow - Tver Oblast) - 17.29 m

2. Snezhana Trofimets (Moscow – Republic of Bashkortostan) - 15.06 m

3. Arina Moiseeva (Omsk Oblast) - 14.24

Alyona Bugakova posted a confident victory in the women’s shot put. She showed 15.93 m in her very first attempt. In her next attempts, the athlete improved her result by 1.30 m.

“I was confident of my victory. Everything is awesome in Kazan. The event management is super; I’ve never seen such a great stadium before and I like everything. I’m satisfied with my results,” Alyona said.

1. Demyan Seskin (St. Petersburg) - 19.61 m

2. Sergey Panchekhin (Krasnodar Krai) – 18.84 m

3. Aleksandr Negoev (Moscow - Ryazan Oblast) – 18.19 m

As expected, the principal struggle unfolded between Demyan Seskin and Sergey Panchekhin. After the first attempt, the Krasnodar Krai athlete gained an upper hand – 18.84 m. But Seskin turned the tables on Panchekhin with several successful attempts. The top podium spot eventually went to the St. Petersburg athlete.
