RAJC 2016: more medals up for grabs on day 2

Medals in a range of track and field events were contested on the second competition day of the Russian Athletics Junior Championships in Kazan.

 Men. Long jump. Final

1. Ivan Tatarinov (Moscow - Irkutsk Oblast) – 7.50 m

2. Maksim Vorobyev (Moscow) - 7.47 m

3. Aleksey Levanov (Moscow Oblast - Perm Krai) – 7.47 m

Maksim Vorobyev took the lead in the first attempt after jumping an impressive 7.38 metres. But he soon was outpaced by Ivan Tatarinov who showed the best result of the day in the third attempt (7.50 m).

Men. Pole vault. Final

1. Vladislav Staruschenko (Krasnodar Krai) – 520 cm

2. Vladimir Scherbakov (St. Petersburg - Leningrad Oblast) – 515 cm

3. Ilya Gorlov (Krasnodar Krai) – 495 cm

Vladislav Staruschenko managed 520 cm in his second attempt and topped the podium in the men’ pole vault event. His main opponent, Vladimir Scherbakov, failed to eclipse Starushenko’s result and finished second.

Women. 400 m. Final

1. Anna Evseychik (Khabarovsk Krai) – 54.76

2. Valeria Tsaplina (Sverdlovsk Oblast - Kirov Oblast) – 55.17

3. Yulia Kondrashkina (Krasnodar Krai - Altai Krai) – 55.77

“The victory was unexpected. The rivals are very strong. Everything is organised to a high standard. I liked it here very much,” Anna Evseychik said after her win.

Women. 800 m. Final

1. Ekaterina Alekseeva (Moscow Oblast - Stavropol Krai) – 2:07.58 m

2. Maria Vladimirova (Chuvash Republic) – 2:09.07 m

3. Anastasia Kudryavtseva (Sverdlovsk Oblast) – 2:09.74 m

Ekaterina Alekseeva posted a confident win in the final. She finished first, 1.5 seconds ahead of Maria Vladimirova.

Men. 800 m. Final

1. Daniil Smolnyakovsky (Stavropol Krai) – 1:53.61 m

2. Andrey Belokon (Perm Krai) – 1:54.18 m

3. Ruslan Rakhmanov (Krasnodar Krai) – 1:54.22 m

In the preliminary round, the best time was shown by Andrey Belokon (1:51.21) but in the final gold medal went to Daniil Smolnyakovsky who was the only competitor to meet the 1.53 m qualifying time. Interestingly enough, he clocked the worst result in the preliminary round but it didn’t prevent him from finishing first in the final.

Women. 200 m. Final

1. Kristina Sivkova (Moscow) – 23.30

2. Anastasia Zholobova (Volgograd Oblast) – 23.85

3. Anastasia Eremeeva (Moscow Oblast) – 24.13

Leader of the preliminary races, Kristina Sivkova, proved her superiority over rivals and took gold in the 200m final.

1. Mikhail Mustafayev (Moscow Oblast - Kabardino-Balkaria) – 21.44

2. Danil Roslyakov (Vologda Oblast) – 21.48

3. Nikita Chaban (Krasnoyarsk Krai) - 21.64

Mikhail Mustafayev earned his second gold at this tournament. He had earlier grabbed the title in the men’s 100m event.

“I’m impressed with my result. There are no words to describe my emotions. I’m happy with the result and my victory. I didn’t count on winning this race. I thought that I will finish second or third but it just turned out that way. The competition was very tough, and I liked it. The rivals were very strong; they refused to give up until the very finish line,” Mikhail Mustafayev said.

Women. 3,000 m steeplechase. Final

1. Anna Tropina (Sverdlovsk Oblast) – 10:27.08 m

2. Anna Kosheleva (Stavropol Krai) – 10:38.40 m

3. Zinaida Antonova (Chuvash Republic) – 10:57.93 m

Anna Tropina of the Sverdlovsk Oblast finished first, almost 10 seconds ahead of the nearest rival, and earned the national junior title.

Men. 3,000 m steeplechase. Final

1. Konstantin Plokhotnikov (Krasnodar Krai) – 8:56.76 m

2. Kirill Dyatlov (Republic of Tatarstan) – 9:13.39 m

3. Roman Dimich (Volgograd Oblast) – 9:17.54 m

“The tournament went very well. The wind was a little bit of a nuisance that’s why I’m not quite happy with my result. I had a hard time running. Maybe, on the final day I will show a better result. Was there strong competition? I didn’t look back,” Konstantin Plokhotnikov said.

Women. 400 m hurdles. Final

1. Tatiana Kiseleva (Kurgan Oblast) – 59.66

2. Ekaterina Turina (Nizhny Novgorod Oblast) – 1:00.15 m

3. Valery Shakhvorostova (Moscow - Vladimir Oblast) – 1:00.47 m

“Last year was not successful. I missed the season and this tournament was very important for me. I have seriously gearing up for it. I liked the event management; the stadium is beautiful. I’m more than happy with my result. It was rather windy though, but I did everything I could,” Tatiana Kiseleva said after her victorious race.
