Kazan host city ambassador for 2018 FIFA world cup Russia™: volunteering opens up new opportunities

12 October 2016, Wednesday

Another football lesson, an event aimed at raising awareness about the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, was held today in Kazan. Ekaterina Skulkina, actress, head of Tatarstan’s Four Tatars KVN team and performer of the Comedy Woman TV show, visited Kazan Gymnasium No102. As a Kazan Host City Ambassador for 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, she met with senior high school students and told them about opportunities that upcoming mega football event offers to them.

“It’s a great pleasure and honour for me to be here with you. I’m very pleased to meet with Kazan students who eagerly answer questions, take an interest in the upcoming World Cup and root for their favourite mascot candidates. Those who were present today at the football lesson are seniors and I’m confident that they will be able to join the volunteer team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ if they want to. Volunteering opens up many opportunities for them and I’m glad that they are aware of that,” said Ekaterina.

The football lesson is a project implemented by the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Local Organising Committee with assistance from 2018 World Cup Volunteer Centres. The projects kicked off in December 2015 as part of the Generation 2018 programme, which aims at uniting football fans around their interests in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ and the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup: mutual respect, healthy lifestyles and fair play.

The first federal football lesson took place on September 1, 2016 in all Host Cities for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup Russia and 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™. In Kazan, the football lesson was hosted by Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin and Rubin Kazan FC goalkeeper and Kazan Host City Ambassador for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, Sergey Ryzhikov. An array of football lessons – 40 lessons in 40 schools – will be held in Kazan until December 2016. In addition, the lessons will be hosted at Kazan’s higher education institutions. The expected exposure audience is more than 30,000 people.

During the presentation, participants of the project will learn about the Host Cities’ preparation for the tournaments and find out about the possibilities of joining the team of organisers or becoming volunteers. The Russia 2018 Ambassadors will explain what steps a candidate needs to make to become a volunteer. There are three steps: submission of an application form, personal skills and English-language tests and individual interview. A volunteer team will be put together based on the results of interviews. Volunteer training will begin in the spring of 2017.
