WMXCC2016: people in our country like curling very much, team Brazil say

15 October 2016, Saturday

Ice battles kicked off early in the morning at the Sport Palace, Kazan. Ten more participants of the World Mixed Curling Championship embarked on a medal hunt at 08:00.

Brazil-England, 1-12

Team England gained a crushing win over the Brazilian curlers who managed to gain only one point. However, Team Brazil are very optimistic about their performance in Kazan.

"People in our country enjoy watching curling competitions on TV or at special venues; they like this sport. Unfortunately, only few people play curling, and this sport is not as developed in our country as it is in yours. However, we have our own Ice Sports Federation that is invested in developing curling in Brazil. Quite possibly, someday we will be able to provide keen and tough competition to Canada and Russia," Team Brazil's skip, Raphael Monticello, shared his thoughts after the match.

Sweden-Ireland, 9-2

The Swedish curlers started the tournament with a confident win over Ireland. In the second end, they took the lead and dominated the game till the end of the match.

"It feels good to know that our team is considered the tournament's favourites. The truth is that we do what we love, and that's how we win," one of the members of Team Sweden, Jennie Waahlin, said in her post-match interview.

Kazakhstan-Poland, 0-10

Team Kazakhstan failed to put up a good fight against the Polish curlers. They suffered a complete whitewash, 0-10.

"We did badly in a lot of ways, and the reason for that was the lack of practice in the past two months. We arrived only yesterday and had no time to achieve good teamwork before we stepped out on the curling lane. Our team needed some time to fall into step, and now, I hope, we will gain victories. Or at least, we will do everything in our power for that. The quality of the curling sheet deserves special praise - it's perfect just like everything that we saw in Kazan," said Kazakhstan's skip, Daniel Kim.

Switzerland-Netherlands, 9-4

One of the tournament's favourites, Team Switzerland, achieved a huge lead in the first end, 5-0. Their opponents didn't manage to recover from such a blow.

Germany-Wales, 7-3
