More matches were contested in the afternoon of the fourth competition day at the World Mixed Curling Championship in Kazan.
Denmark-Kazakhstan, 16-2
The Scandinavians practically didn’t meet any resistance from Team Kazakhstan to earn yet another victory at the Kazan tournament. Tomorrow’s morning session will see Denmark face off with the Russian team.
“It was rather easy for us to play against today’s opponents. We thought it will be more difficult. Kazakhstan had several good deliveries and it seemed that they will be able to turn the tide in their favour. Luckily for us, It didn’t happen because they missed many deliveries in the first end. The curling sheet is great today, just like always. It’s nice to play under such good conditions, it’s one of the reasons for a stunning and successful performance,” Denmark’s Pavia Hjoerngaard said in the post-match interview.
Wales-Switzerland, 2-8
The Swiss team started to dictate the run of the game from the very outset, without giving Wales a chance to turn the tables on them. But still Wales tried hard to seize the initiative and fought to the last breath.
France-Latvia, 4-9
A very intense game between France and Latvia ended with the latter’s victory. The outcome of the match was decided in the final ends.
“Both teams played very carefully and the fate of the match was determined in the seventh end. Unfortunately, I failed to perform my part the way I was expected to and we lost. We will try to do better in the future. It’s our first world championship and we open up many things for ourselves for the first time: some things work out, some do not. We are happy to be here. We were impressed by Kazan and the championship very much,” noted the skip of the French national team, Stephane Vergnaud.
Korea-Austria, 0-10
“The game went really well for us but we had a hard time with the deliveries although it didn’t look like this. We also had problems with takeouts; the ice is very slidable but we got used to it. We enjoyed the game and we happy with the win,” one of the players of Team Austria, Gernot Higatzberger, shared in his interview.
Slovenia-Estonia, 3-4
“The match was tough and during such games it’s especially difficult to keep emotions at bay, to stay focused. We managed to handle the pressure and it’s the most important thing. It’s always great to win, especially in hard-fought matches like today's, where the outcome is decided by the last stone,” said Team Estonia’s third, Elise Nassar.
