A few more playoff teams were revealed during the evening session of the sixth competition day at the World Mixed Curling Championship in Kazan.
Czech Republic-Spain, 6-3
The Czech Republic played its second match today but it didn’t prevent it from gaining an upper hand over the Spanish team. And their perseverance was quite understandable as there was a lot at stake for the Czech curlers.
Netherlands-Wales, 3-8
The Dutch team is not able to break its losing streak at the tournament in Kazan. The Netherlands lost the match against Wales and settled for the last place in the group.
Norway-Japan, 3-5
Two main candidates for a playoff spot in Group A met in this match. Because of its failures in the first games, Norway was only in the third place. Japan was taking the second place, having four wins and one loss under its belt. The match was really intense because of the defense tactics that both teams used. Both Norwegian and Japanese curlers produced takeouts and placed guards. The latter team managed to gain a win and sent the defending champions packing as early as in the group stage. Japan secured a spot in the elimination matches.
Switzerland-Turkey, 8-1
By winning this match, the Swiss team guaranteed itself a playoff spot, just like the Turkish team. But they will have hard time fighting for the first place in the group.
