The evening programme of Day 2 at the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships started with the men’s finals.
Andrey Shabasov of Saint Petersburg celebrated victory in the men’s 100m backstroke event. He clocked 50 seconds. Kliment Kolesnikov of Moscow finished second, posting the new national junior record (50,90). Nikita Ulyanov (Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District) earned bronze. Three-time world champion Stanislav Donets appealed against his disqualification but his appeal was dismissed. The swimmer was disqualified for a false start and tried to challenge the decision after the heat.
The best swimmer was also revealed in the women’s 100m backstroke event. Maria Kameneva of the Orenburg Oblast was unbeatable, clocking 57,80. Daria Ustinova of the Sverdlovsk Oblast ended up second (58,23). Tatarstan’s Irina Prikhodko placed third (58,35).
Oleg Kostin of Nizhny Novgorod showed the best time in the men’s 100m breaststroke event with 57,06. Saint Petersburg’s Kirill Prigoda finished second (57,30); Moscow’s Anton Chupkov rounded out the podium in third (57,53).
