The second competition day of the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships ended with the men’s butterfly, women’s freestyle and medley relays.
Daniil Pakhomov of Saint Petersburg set the national record in the men’s 100m butterfly. He finished the race with 50,87, however failed to qualify for December’s FINA World Short Course (25m) Swimming Championship in Windsor (CAN). Silver was claimed by Alexander Sadovnikov of the Kaliningrad Oblast (51,09); Evgeny Koptelov of Moscow settled for bronze (51,11).
Anastasia Kirpichnikova of the Sverdlovsk Oblast won the women’s 800m freestyle event with 8:24.31. Valeria Salamatina finished second (8:26.62) whereas Varvara Simonova (Perm Krai) ended up third with 8:30.44.
The Moscow relay team were in a league of their own in the men’s 4x200m freestyle medley relay. The team made of Mikhail Dovgalyuk, Artyom Lobuzov, Daniil Pasynkov and Mikhail Polischuk clocked 6:58.73. Saint Petersburg’s Vyacheslav Andrusenko, Elisey Stepanov, Alexander Fyodorov and Evgeny Ayzetullov (7:01.70) placed second; swimmers of the Kaluga Oblast, Sergey Sudakov, Andrey Lyarsky, Dmitry Luznetsov and Mikhail Vekovischev took bronze (7:03.35). The Tatarstan representatives narrowly missed out on a podium finish.
In the mixed 4x50 medley relay, gold medals were claimed by the St Petersburg team featuring Andrey Shabasov, Kirill Prigoda, Daria Ustinova and Anastasia Lyazeva (1:39.82). The Moscow team, made of Kliment Kolesnikov, Grigory Falko, Svetlana Chimrova and Rozalia Nasretdinova had to settle for silver (1:40.47). Bronze went to the Novosibirsk Oblast’s Dmitry Lapshin, Sergey Geybel, Arina Surkova and Natalia Lovtsova (1:41.66). The Tatarstan team finished fourth.
