Day 3 of the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships in Kazan kicked off with the women’s finals. The first medals were contested in the medley relay.
The St Petersburg team (Nadezhda Vinyukova, Maria Temnikova, Ekaterina Shapanikova and Anastasia Lyazeva) finished first in the women’s 4x50m medley with 1:49.32. Alexandra Papusha, Nika Godun, Maya Mitrofanova and Katarina Milutinovich of Moscow placed second (1:50.30). Bronze went to Angelina Elapova, Valentina Artemyeva, Kira Volodina and Arina Surkova of the Novosibirsk Oblast (1:50.82).
Veronika Popova of Saint Petersburg clocked the best time in the women’s 100m freestyle event. She covered the distance in 52,93. Rozalia Nasretdinova of Moscow earned silver (53,29); Maria Kameneva of the Orenburg Oblast ended up third (53,40).
The Sverdlovsk Oblast’s Daria Ustinova was unbeatable in the women’s 200m backstroke final with 2:04.46. Anastasia Osipenko of the Krasnoyarsk Krai finished second (2:04.75). Irina Prikhodko (Republic of Tatarstan) settled for bronze (2:04.85).
