The third competition day of the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships featured the most anticipated final in the men’s 400m freestyle event. Tatarstan representative, participant of the Rio Olympic Games, Alexander Krasnykh, who had early earned gold in the men’s 200m event, qualified for the final.
Krasnykh touched the wall at 3:37.87, accomplishing the qualifying standard for the upcoming FINA World Swimming Championships in Canada. Vyacheslav Andrusenko of Saint Petersburg finished far behind the Tatarstan swimmer with 3:42.56 whereas another St Petersburg representative, Alexander Fyodorov, came third (3:43.12).
Moscow’s Rozalia Nasretdinova was in a league of her own in the women’s 50m butterfly event. She clocked 26,03. Daria Tsvetkova of the Altai Krai showed the second-best time (26,07) with Alina Kashinskaya of the Sverdlovsk Oblast rounding out the podium in third (26,19).
Daria Kartashova of Saint Petersburg was best in the women’s 100m individual medley 59,65. Silver was claimed by Saint Petersburg’s Irina Shvaeva (1:00.64). Nika Godun could have taken bronze if she had not been disqualified for a false start. As a result, Sofia Spodarenko placed third (1:02.05).
Andrey Arbuzov, who represents the Krasnoyarsk Krai, took gold in the men’s 50m freestyle event (21,39). Evgeny Sedov of the Volgograd Oblast clocked 21,49 to grab silver. Alexander Bryansky of the Irkutsk Oblast became third (21,50). Participant of the Rio Olympic Games, Nikita Lobintsev, finished seventh.
