14 medal events were contested on the closing day of the Russian Short Course Swimming Championship in Kazan.
Nikita Lobintsev (Moscow Oblast-Sverdlovsk Oblast) earned the national title in the men’s freestyle final with 47,03 and achieved the qualification standard for the upcoming FINA World Swimming Championship in Windsor (CAN). Silver went to the representative of the Irkutsk Oblast, Alexey Bryansky (47,45); Mikhail Vekovischev of the Kaluga Oblast rounded out the podium in third (47,55).
The next set of medals was contested in the women’s 50m backstroke event. Maria Kameneva of the Orenburg Oblast finished first with 26,50. Polina Egorova (Republic of Bashkortostan) came second (26,99) whereas Irina Prikhodko of the Republic of Tatarstan took bronze (27,40).
St Petersburg’s Andrey Shabasov, who had captured swimming fans' hearts at the Kazan tournament, was unbeatable in the women’s 200m backstroke event. His winning time is 1:50.11. Kliment Kolesnikov of Moscow placed second with the national junior record (1:51.72); Roman Larin (Penza Oblast) settled for bronze (1:52.87).
The Moscow representatives, Anastasia Serpionova, Polina Osipenko, Valeria Kolotushkina and Katarina Milutonovich, topped the podium in the women’s 4x50m freestyle medley relay with 1:40,87. Veronika Popova, Irina Shvaeva, ksenia Kozyuk and Anastasia Kuligina (Saint Petersburg) grabbed silver (1:41.10). Tatarstan swimmers Olesya Korchagina, Valeria Dudina, Elizaveta Bazarova and Lilia Giniyatullina ended up third, 1:42.58.
