The US diver, Maria Coburn, claimed gold in the 1m springboard final (Group B Girls) at the World Junior Diving Championships that kicked off yesterday in Kazan. She collected 354.35, leaving two Chinese divers behind.
“I’m truly happy. It has been hard to win gold but I trained a lot and have been pursuing my goal; I think that my success is well-deserved,” the winner said. “The Chinese divers were very strong. All athletes are world-class here but I believe that the US team is the strongest one.”
Silver and bronze went to China’s Yixian Liang, who fell 10 points short of the gold medallist (344.55), and Xiaojie He, who scored 338.45.
