FINA WJDC 2016: Rio Olympians earn medals at Kazan tournament on day 6

Elena Wassen of Germany won gold on the sixth competition day of the FINA World Junior Diving Championships in Kazan. She was unbeatable in the platform event (Group A Girls). The judges gave 430.70 points to the German diver, which allowed her to top the podium.

According to Elena, it's her third time in Kazan - before that she came here to compete at the FINA/NVC Diving World Series and FINA World Championships. This summer she competed at the Olympic Games in Rio (BRA). "Surely, this experience helped me," the German diver said with confidence. "But the emotion and impression that you go through at the junior tournament are unreplaceable; you will experience them nowhere else"

Lois Toulson of Great Britain climbed upon the second step of the podium with 430.40 points. Canada's Olivia Chamandy settled for bronze (429.80)

Despite finishing only 0.30 points behind the winner, Lois Toulson was pleased with her result. "It was quite interesting to be back to the juniors after the Olympics," the silver medallist said. In Rio, there was an amazing atmosphere; Tonia Couch (my diving partner in synchro events) and I were very close to winning a medal but here, in Kazan, it's great to perform too. There's a huge difference between Rio and Kazan - here I know almost everyone; we've been competing against each other for a long time. But it never prevents us from staying good friends."

Bronze medallist Olivia Chamandy was a little bit upset with her result; before the final she had hoped to win gold. "I was pursuing a medal and it's good that I have achieved my goal. Two medals at the worlds is a good result. I pulled myself together and I showed what I'm capable of but there's always room for improvement," the Canadian diver said. "I was very close to winning gold. I hope that next time I will end up atop the podium; it's my ultimate goal."

Russian divers, who competed in the same event, Valeria Belova and Anna Chuinyshena made it to the final but took only the 11th and 12th places respectively. Valeria earned 380.65 points whereas Anna collected 362.45.
