Preliminary matches of the first leg of the Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Grand Prix Series wrapped up in Kazan today. The following teams managed to advance to the quarterfinal: France, Netherlands, Russia, Portugal, Great Britain 1, Great Britain 2, Ireland and Spain. 

New Zealand has guaranteed a place in the line-up of champions playing the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 after defeating Papua New Guinea 4-2 on penalties (0-0 AET) in the final of the OFC Nations Cup.

The Russian women’s national rugby sevens squad kicked off with an overwhelming victory at the first stage of the Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Grand Prix Series. The tournament began today at the Central Stadium, Kazan. In their first match, the Russians whitewashed Team Belgium, 54-0.

This was announced by head coach of the Russian national squad, Pavel Baranovsky, at the tournament kickoff press conference today. The meeting with journalists took place on the threshold of a major rugby sevens competition due to unfold this weekend at the Central Stadium as part of the Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Grand Prix Series.
