Preparations for Victory Day at the Universiade Village began long before May 9 as several events at once were timed to coincide with this great holiday. The festive event dedicated to the 69th anniversary of the Victory at the Great Patriotic War was held on May 7. On that day all residents of the Universiade Village, veterans and officials gathered at the student campus to remember once again the time of military glory and honour the memory of those who died at the war.
The 27th Summer Universiade gave a strong impetus to the development of sports in Tatarstan. The Games, which were staged to the highest standard, do not let the city lower the bar in terms of managing high-profile sporting events. Top athletes from around the world will gather in Kazan again in the spring/summer 2014, which will be packed with sports events. Kazan is due to play host to an array of major championships, one of which is the IWF World Junior Championships.
The World Fencing Championships are scheduled to be held in Kazan on July 15-23. The competition will be hosted in the Kazan Tennis Academy, one of the largest sports venues of the capital of Tatarstan.
With the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in full swing, the presentation of the 16th FINA World Championships was held in Sochi. This high-profile international event will be hosted by the Russian Federation for the first time. Kazan, which has recently staged the Summer Universiade, will platy host to the championships in 2015.
These people have become part of the Winter Olympic Games. They took part in the Tatarstan leg of the Torch Relay, which took place on the eve of the New Year celebrations. Invaluable experience and the opportunity to watch Olympic history unfold in front of their eyes are not all the gifts that the volunteers have gained.
President of the International Wrestling Federation (FILA) Nenad Lalovic backed Tatarstan's offer to include the Tatar national belt wrestling Koresh in the programme of multi-sports events. It was announced today at the meeting between Lalovic, Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan Rafis Burganov, and Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Azat Kadyrov, which took place on the sidelines of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
Partnerships established by the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate in the build-up to and during the Universiade will be further developed for the benefit of future sports projects. In particular, the organisation will continue its cooperation with the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and EF Education First.
